Hawaii Travel Guide

Hawaii is a dream destination for many!  Featuring beautiful beaches, lush rainforests, and a laid-back island vibe. It’s no wonder it is the ideal vacation destination for many travelers. My Hawaii travel guide will give a quick overview of the island as well as tips for your own travels!

Hawaii is comprised of 8 different islands, 6 of which you can visit. The main islands are the island of Hawaii (also known as The Big Island), Maui, Oahu, and Kauai. You can also visit the island of Molokai and Lanai but these two are much more remote and less often visited. Lanai is only accessible via ferry from Maui and you can only reach Molokai through a connecting flight from one of the bigger islands.

Each Hawaiian island is unique and offers something different! The Big Island is very diverse and offers a little bit of everything from beaches, to rainforests to volcanoes! Maui is known as The Valley Isle and offers a beautiful variety of stunning beaches. Oahu is the busiest most touristy island and is great for those looking for a big city vibe and an endless array of activities! Kauai, also called The Garden Isle, is best known for its laid-back atmosphere and beautiful waterfalls.

When to Go

There is really not a bad time to visit Hawaii as the islands consistently offer summer-like temperatures year-round. The summer months usually hover around the 80s while the winter stays in the 70s to 80s range so you can enjoy the water and outdoor activities every month of the year! Keep in mind that some of the islands such as Kauai and the Big Island tend to have more rain than others. If you want to avoid rain, consider visiting these islands during the drier summer months. However, rain showers are typically short-lived, so if you do see some rain throughout your stay, it shouldn’t stop your vacation!

Travel Safety

I would consider Hawaii to be a very safe travel destination and it is probably one of the safest states for solo female travel! I have received advice to be careful of leaving valuables and luggage in your car while sightseeing as petty theft can be an issue. When I was in Hawaii I followed this advice and either left valuables at home or tucked away in the trunk of the car.  This seemed to work for me as I personally had no issues with theft or feeling unsafe during my trip.
