Indonesia Travel Guide
Indonesia possesses a vast range of rich cultures and incredible landscapes across over 17,000 islands. Its most popular tourist destination is, by far, the island of Bali. Millions of tourists flock to Bali every year to immerse themselves in the magic of this beautiful island. However, many travelers forget that there is SO much more to explore across this incredibly diverse country.
Besides Bali, some other popular destinations include Komodo Island which is the habitat of the Komodo Dragon, the Gili Islands which are known for their clear blue waters and white sand beaches, and Nusa Penida which is located just off the coast of Bali and offers world-class diving as well as cliff jumping.
What You Should Know
When to Go
The most popular time to visit Indonesia is during the dry season which is April through October. However, if you don’t mind some rain, the off months during November through March can also have some nice weather without the crowds.
I traveled to Indonesia during February and found I liked the calm of a morning rainstorm followed by a day of sunshine. However, the weeks before I got there had been filled with tropical rainstorms without much sun so you will be taking your chances when visiting during the rainy season.
Travel Facts
Language: Indonesian
Currency: The Indonesian Rupiah (IDR)
Outlets & Plugs: Type C
Credit Cards: I highly recommend carrying cash as this is the only form of payment accepted in many areas. If you are staying in an upscale hotel or dining at a high-end restaurant in a touristy area then you will probably be able to use your credit or debit card. I would use your cards as a backup when traveling through Indonesia and plan on dealing mostly with cash.
Travel Safety
Indonesia is considered a top destination for solo female travelers as it is a very safe travel destination. There are some areas where you need to take necessary precautions and keep an eye on your belongings but it is generally a very safe place to travel.
